Makarska sits roughly seventy kilometres south of Split, backed by the sheer face of the Biokovo mountain range and fronted by a long pebble beach. The drive from Split Airport takes around eighty minutes by car under normal traffic.
The route
The road runs along the Adriatic Highway, passing through Omiš and skirting the base of Biokovo for much of the way. It's a scenic drive in its own right, with the road threading between the mountains and the sea for long stretches south of Omiš.
Timing your transfer
Summer weekend traffic, particularly on Saturdays during the peak changeover season for holiday rentals, can add thirty minutes or more to the journey. A private transfer booked with your flight number means the driver builds in that buffer automatically rather than leaving you to guess.
Beyond Makarska itself
The Makarska Riviera stretches along the coast either side of the town, taking in Brela to the north and Baška Voda in between — both reachable on the same road and often booked as an extension of a Makarska transfer for travellers staying slightly outside the town centre.
